The Public Science Project awarded $500,000 Ford Foundation Grant
The GC’s Public Science Project (PSP) has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Ford Foundation to fund its “Just Methods for Participatory Youth Policy” project.
The PSP produces critical scholarship for use in social policy debates and organizing movements for educational equity and human rights. The grant will support three participatory action research projects aimed at democratizing knowledge production, analysis, and circulation by and for young people, primarily LGBTQ youth and young people of color.
“The project is designed to center the knowledge and experiences of youth too long left out in the creation of data-driven participatory youth policy,” said Professor María Elena Torre (Psychology), director and cofounder of the PSP. Torre and Distinguished Professor Michelle Fine (Psychology/Urban Education) are the principal investigators of the project.
“The Ford Foundation grant is an outstanding recognition of the Graduate Center, and of the Public Science Project in particular, as crucial public spaces dedicated to the production and circulation of democratically generated scholarship to build and sustain the commons in highly unequal and contentious times,” said Distinguished Professor Fine
