DSC’s Health and Wellness committee advocates for students regarding their health and wellness concerns and plans events and activities surrounding health and wellness issues. We help the DSC Exec. Committee in liaising with GC/CUNY administration and staff in the Office of Student Affairs (particularly regarding student health insurance), the Wellness Center, and the GC dining hall and cafe; our job is to advocate for improvements in areas of health and wellness for GC students, as well as to identify and distribute information about these areas.

Here are some H&W initiatives and events to look out for:

–Safer Sex bowls in program lounges and DSC offices, containing penetrative and receptive condoms, dental dams, lube, and finger cots (does your program not have a safer sex bowl? Consider volunteering to be a bowl restocker for your program!)

–Navigating NYSHIP workshop to give tips and guidance on how to understand and use the NYSHIP Student Employee Health Plan (co-sponsored with the Adjunct Project) (This September)

–Finals Relief Stations at the end of the semester, with free ten minute massages, ear plugs, and nap stations (co-sponsored with the Student Life and Services committee).

–Weekly coffee hours on Friday, not just to talk about health and wellness issues but to decompress and get to know your fellow GC comrades.

–Updates and  information on health and wellness issues relevant to GC students, including information about insurance and a student-recommended NYSHIP provider list, on this website.

–Insert your event here! What would you like to see happen? Contact me at wellness@cunydsc.org about what  events and initiatives you’d like to see, and/or to talk about how we might sponsor your event.

Please contact wellness@cunydsc.org or the DSC with any questions or concerns you have about health and wellness at the DSC. The more we know, the more we can help advocate for you and for other students (and, if you want to be anonymous, you can use the contact form found here)
