Because a condition of receiving NYSHIP insurance is being an actively matriculating graduate student as well as an employee in the CUNY system, here’s some important information for those planning on graduating this spring, whether you have NYSHIP insurance through a fellowship or through an adjunct position.

In general terms, adjuncts are terminated from NYSHIP and their coverage ceases 28 days after their employment appointment ends or they graduate, whichever comes first.

Even if you have a fellowship, graduate assistant appointment, or an adjunct appointment that continues to pay you through the summer, you will have NYSHIP coverage terminated 28 days after your graduation date.  This is because you are no longer an actively-matriculating graduate student, even though you are still an employee.  You will then be eligible for COBRA coverage.
