The safer sex initiative now has bowls of safer sex supplies in over 10 different programs’ lounges and other spaces, as well as the DSC lounge and the Wellness Center, as always.  But what all is in them?

The FC2 condom is one of the several types of condoms available in these locations, along with dental dams and lubricant.  Currently, it is the only internal condom–also known as a female condom or receptive condom–that the safer sex initiative has available.  It is made of nitrile, not latex, so it is a good option for people with latex sensitivities or allergies.  The internal condom can also be used  for both vaginal and anal sex (Note: the FC2 has not  been approved for anal sex use by the FDA as all research was completed based on vaginal sex, but it is considered an effective and accepted barrier device for anal sex, especially for those with latex sensitivities). It can be inserted hours before intercourse and doesn’t need to be removed immediately.  So as not to increase the chance of breakage, internal condoms should not be used with an insertive (male/external) condom.
