On Saturday May 9th, 2020, Co-chair Yvette Kemp and executive committee member Kristen Hackett published a public letter to public officials outlining how COVID-19 is exacerbating poor living conditions for public housing tenants, and calling on public officials to end the neglect. It also outlines specific policy and legislative decisions officials at the city, state and federal level can make to improve conditions for public housing tenants now and in the future. As the letter states, NYCHA tenants deserve THE SAME quality living conditions that public officials expect for themselves and their family members. The ongoing neglect – which has contributed to an alarming rate of death and loss across NYCHA campuses during COVID-19 – MUST STOP.
