Question: For you, what is the most pressing or important issue that the field of Writing Studies is currently facing?

Ashanka Kumari: Perhaps the most pressing or important issue I’ve noticed in our field is that of connecting, bridging, and making our work impactful with the communities around us. As I’ve watched the conversations surrounding the Conference on Composition and Communication unfold this past year, I increasingly note that our field must actively work to respond to the ongoing concerns in our nation at large that directly impact us and the students we teach. Writing Studies is uniquely positioned such that our work can make social changes and impact the conversations going on outside of our campus communities. I think our field can work hard to work together to make a larger social impact.
