About me
My research focuses on the intersection of immigration, gender, and race, specifically how immigration and refugee resettlement policies affect refugee and immigrant families in U.S. cities, and how migrants assert their agency to respond to imposed racial and gender hierarchies. My other research interests include urban inequality, family relations, applied sociology, and social policy. I am currently working on a book manuscript about the Liberian refugee and immigrant community in Staten Island’s North Shore, home to one of the largest Liberian populations in the United States.
My research interests are informed by my work with refugee and immigrant families. I am the co-founder and an honorary board member of Culture Connect, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides services for refugees and immigrants in the Atlanta, GA area.
