Scholarships & Internships – Institute for Humane Studies

The following programs are offered by the Institute for Humane Studies, an organization founded in 1961 that supports students who value individual liberty.

Humane Studies Fellowships: Awards of up to $15,000 for graduate students and outstanding undergraduates pursuing academic careers whose work advances a free society. Open to students in a range of disciplines, such as law, psychology, economics, history, and literature. Review the research interests of the 2010 fellows to learn more. IHS Journalism Internship Program: Paid journalism internships for talented writers who support free markets, individual rights, and peace. Opportunities at nonprofit newsrooms, major media networks, newspapers, and new media sites. Applicants may also apply for funding for internships secured on their own. Program includes a stipend plus housing and travel assistance, and a seminar on freedom of the press. Apply by November 15 for spring and by January 31 for summer. www.TheIHS.org/journalism

Public Policy Internships: Paid summer internships at more than 100 think tanks and policy organizations across the US.  A comprehensive program that includes two career workshops in Washington, DC, and weekly lectures by academics and policy professionals.  Professional guidance on interviewing and public speaking.
