Talia Sandwick receives 2018-2019 Graduate Center, Center for Place, Culture and Politics Dissertation Fellowship

We are pleased to announce that Talia Sandwick has been awarded the 2018-2019 Graduate Center, Center for Place, Culture and Politics Dissertation Fellowship. Her dissertation is a critical participatory action project developed in partnership with Teachers Unite, the Restorative Justice Initiative, Dignity in Schools-New York, Public Science Project and a CPAR team of students and educators.

Designed to generate materials for policy and organizing, the research explores how people on the ground in New York City school communities conceptualize safety and accountability “on our own terms” in policy, practice, and lived experience, amidst ongoing debates about school discipline, surveillance, and the role of restorative and transformative justice in schools.

With a lens of critical race and critical psychological theory, her project will support the school-based organizing efforts of youth and educator members of Teachers Unite and the public policy advocacy of DSC-NY.

Congratulations, Talia!
