Please join Udaan-ISRA and the Polis Project for the first of four lecture-conversations ‘Dissent in Dangerous Times‘ on Sep 14th at 6pm, in room 5409.
This opening talk will feature Maaza Mengiste, a novelist and essayist. Her debut novel, Beneath the Lion’s Gaze, was selected by the Guardian as one of the 10 best contemporary African books and named one of the best books of 2010 by Christian Science Monitor, Boston Globe and other publications. Maaza’s fiction and nonfiction examine the individual lives at stake during migration, war, and exile, and considers the intersections of photography and violence. Her new novel, set during Fascist Italy’s invasion of Ethiopia, is forthcoming.
