In no particular order, here are my post categories explained. They will likely evolve over the life of the blog, but here are my thoughts on each for now:
Digital Communication: Digital communication is unavoidable in many respects. We live in a society where getting in touch with people is suddenly a multidimensional process. I’m curious to keep track of this history in some way as it happens, and find myself writing about it often.
Instructional Technology: How do we use technology to support instruction?
Policy-Practice Gap: I’m curious about how policies that appear on paper measure up in reality — particularly in New York City public school classrooms.
Using Computers: Computers have become the foundational building blocks of most of what we do. I can’t help but write about it.
Thinking About Theory: Much of my thinking is guided by and grounded in theory.
Writing Process: Aside from computers and yarn, I probably think about writing process more than most other things.
On Being A Grad Student: I’ve got a lot to say on this topic for obvious reasons.
On Being A Teacher: I taught photography at a high school in Yonkers from 1999-2000 school year. I then taught 3rd grade from 2001-2002, 5th grade from 2002-2005, and was a literacy coach from 2005-2006 at a school in New York City. I began teaching at the college level in 2003. Most of my research is rooted in these experiences.
On Being A Fiber Artist: When I’m not teaching, researching, or writing, you’ll find me with knitting needles and a ball of yarn.
On Being a New Yorker: I moved to New York in 1999, and we’re old friends by now.
