Franklin Plaza

Screen shot 2013-05-28 at 2.08.43 AMFranklin Plaza was built in the 60s as part of the affordable housing initiative.  Under this and other Mitchell-Lama projects, middle class families were able to move into permanent housing. Some of them, as is the case with this development, were intended to be coops, which promoted home ownership.

Listen to Jason Lopez talk about his experience
growing up in Franklin Plaza.

Many Puerto Ricans who were already in the neighborhood were able to move into the apartment complex (that spans from First Ave to Third Ave, and 106th and 10th Streets).  In the past 20 years, there has been an influx of Chinese and Chinese Americans who have made Franklin Plaza their home.
