Movie Theaters and Tickets:
MoMA Film Calendar: All MoMA film screenings are free to CUNY students. Beyond their ongoing series of indispensable classics, “An Auteurist History of Film,” the museum often screens rare films that can’t be seen anywhere else.
Discount Movie Tickets: The DSC provides discounted movie tickets for all AMC/Loew’s theaters ($8) and the Angelika Film Center ($7.50) to GC students, faculty, and staff. Tickets can be purchased in the DSC office in room 5495.
Film Forum: From Classical Hollywood to Nouvelle Vague to current documentary, there’s always something worth seeing at Film Forum. Annual student memberships are $50 at the box office. (Members’ admission price is $8 rather than $14, and the membership fee is fully tax deductible.)
Anthology Film Archives: Counting Jonas Mekas, P. Adams Sitney, and Stan Brakhage among its 1969 founders, Anthology houses one of the largest collections of avant-garde films and related materials in the world. A $40 student membership includes free admission to all “Essential Cinema” screenings (incl. Méliès, Eisenstein, Buster Keaton, Vigo, Warhol, Kenneth Anger, et al.) and $6 reduced admission to all other programs.
IDNYC: New York City residents who obtain an IDNYC card are eligible for free one-year memberships at a number of cultural institutions, including BAM, which offers a 50% discount on movie tickets to members.
