Introductions
Member suggestions for activities and group in general:
- Americanist speakers from other universities
- clearinghouse of information
- Outings (theatre, museums)
- Keep tabs on who’s coming through town to speak to other universities
- Calendar of events around the city/area that everyone can contribute to
- Web-site, with running bibliography
- Reach out to NYU (PhD program) and Columbia for further networking
- Reading Groups that choose current scholarship for discussion (interdisciplinary, informal meetings over drinks), make sure that different programs choose texts so we have a real variety of perspectives
- Round-tables with various professors from different programs at the GC (draw on our own resources, and avoid honorarium fees!) once a semester
- Enlist recent alumni still in the area as guests as well, various speakers suggested
- Platform for discussing the profession to some degree, any way of having sessions for constructing vita, publications, interviews, etc.
- GC has lots of interdisciplinary potential in general that is not tapped into, and we need to try and address this
Run-down of organization
- A liaison will represent each program to disseminate information and gather feedback
- We will have both formal and informal meetings
- DSC charter status pending until voting session in early October
- Aiming for monthly outings/activities/panels, with each month coordinated by a different program/liaison
