If you are a NYSHIP participant who is enrolled in an Adjunct job title, take note of the following information from the University Benefits Office:
In order to assure that all NYSHIP-eligible Adjuncts retain their health insurance coverage during the 2015 Summer Semester, seven health insurance premium deductions will be automatically prepaid over the final four pay dates in the spring semester.
On the April 16th, April 30th, and May 14th pay dates, both the regular biweekly deduction and two additional deductions will be taken.
On the May 28th pay date, the regular biweekly deduction plus one extra deduction will be taken. (Please refer to the attachment for a summary of the total biweekly deduction amounts.)
Opting out:
Students can opt out of the prepayment if they are working as Adjuncts during the summer period, if they are not returning to a NYSHIP-eligible position in the fall, or if they are graduating at the end of the Spring 2015 Semester (in other words, only adjuncts graduating, working this summer, or not having a fall appointment, need to do anything about this; for others, the extra deductions will just come out of the paycheck). If any of these situations applies to you, please fill out the attached form accordingly and promptly return it to NYSHIP Coordinator Scott Voorhees
