No, really! At 2:53 EDT, I felt a slight shaking – enough to notice, and long enough for me to notice, look around, and then walk outside and see what was happening. At first I thought it was something like construction, but I don’t think the Verizon people can cause the whole building to move. Then I noticed all my neighbors, out on their stoops, asking if anyone else felt that.

Being the intrepid geologist, i went online to the ol’ USGS, and sure enough, at 17:51:03 UTC, there was a 5.9 quake (really?!?!) centered near Richmond, Va. And we felt it all the way up here!
The neighbors are still talking about it, and many could hear something – not rumble, but the noises from their houses dealing with the stress and the strain from the (rather mild) shaking. I think the bigger thing is that this quake was the first I’ve ever felt, and let me tell you, it’s an odd feeling – the building actually shakes, and it’s quite disorienting.
Anyway, let’s hope that folks closer to the epicenter are ok. Guess I have to turn on the news now…
