About me
I am a doctoral candidate in the sociology program at the Graduate Center. My interests include gender, globalization, the informal economy, and social movements.
My dissertation examines the changing dynamics of women’s societal roles as a result of their participation in the informal economy. Focusing on the experiences of home-based workers, I ask how new forms of production created by contemporary capitalism are changing previous understandings of the division of productive and social reproductive labor, and the consequences of this for labor organizing. Ethnographic fieldwork was conducted in Ahmedabad, India, in collaboration with SEWA, a labor union for women informal workers.
Since arriving at the Graduate Center, I have been a research assistant and project coordinator at LIS, a cross-national data center. I also assisted on a number of research projects with the Healthy Public Policy Research Group at the Hunter College of Public Health.
