  1. The Departments of Romance Languages and Theatre and Film Studies invite applications for a joint position at the assistant professor level beginning on August 15, 2011.

    We are looking for outstanding scholars whose research and interests focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically in Francophone Caribbean theatre and performance. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in both departments and to affiliate with the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI). Faculty members are expected to support the college’s goals of creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

    Following national advertisements in the THE and the Guardian, we’re pleased to announce a range of studentships for postgraduate study in Drama at the University of Birmingham.

    For the 2011-12 academic year, we are inviting applications at Doctoral level for AHRC studentships for Drama topics applicable to the area of English Literature and Language, and for University studentships (equivalent to AHRC funding, but also open to non-EU/Home applicants) in all Drama topics, both theoretical and practice-led (in open competition).

  3. ¬POSITION AVAILABLE: Development Associate, Institutional Giving, The Public Theater

    The Development Associate will work with the Director of Institutional Giving to develop effective solicitation and cultivation strategies to meet goals and will maintain a portfolio of institutional funders including corporate, foundation, and government constituents. He/she will research prospective funders and maintain a robust and active list for securing additional institutional partners. The Associate will assist with grant maintenance on several complex, multi-year agreements and will generate project budgets and financial reports. The position requires a substantial amount of writing and editing in a fast paced environment; and the ability to produce high-quality work under shifting deadlines. An understanding of budgeting and financial reconciliation, including the ability to set and meet fundraising objectives, evaluate results, and develop corrective strategies as needed is also required. Specific duties:

    Prospect Identification, Cultivation and Solicitation:
    • Work with the Director of Institutional Giving to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to meet and exceed annual institutional fundraising goals.
    • Serve as primary grant writer. Assist with routine preparation of proposals, gathering statistical and financial information, assembling samples, compiling materials, and securing budget data.
    • Assist in maintaining solicitation calendar to ensure that contributions are procured and acknowledged on time
    • Schedule cultivation, renewal and stewardship donor meetings; coordinate the preparation of background summaries and briefing materials for key participants.

    Benefit Fulfillment & Donor Recognition:
    • Coordinate fulfillment of corporate partnership benefits, including recognition in external marketing, signage, Playbill, press releases, and other opportunities for sponsor visibility, including logo placement and other contractual agreements for donor recognition.
    • Interface regularly with Press and Marketing staff to ensure fulfillment of recognition efforts listed above.

    Donor Stewardship and Tracking:
    • Prepare and manage donor acknowledgment letters.
    • Produce periodic cultivation/result tracking reports from Tessitura, manage corporate giving invoices, track ticketing benefits/usage for budget compliance.
    • Assist with the preparation and submission of financial and statistical reports, in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Collaborate with colleagues as needed to ensure that ticket requests from institutional donors are managed in a timely manner.
    Requirements: Proven experience as a successful fundraiser preferred; strong writing skills a must. The ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and move multiple projects forward simultaneously required. Proven ability to negotiate complex, high profile, grant/sponsorship agreements preferred. Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Public Theater to a broad range of key stakeholders required. Working knowledge of customer relations management databases; experience with Tessitura preferred. The position will interface with all departments company-wide and requires the capacity to marshal resources and successfully navigate a large cultural institution. The Associate will also be required to attend special events throughout the year outside of business hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly in the summer. The position requires the ability to work independently under prescribed time constraints, and concurrently engage with donors, trustees, and key stakeholders in social settings.
