Stop Censorship, Oppose SOPA/PIPA

January 16, 2012 in Event, Feature, Service Notice

This Wednesday (1/18/12) OpenCUNY.org will be “blocked” from 8AM to 8PM in protest of the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) and the Protect-IP Act (PIPA). TAKE ACTION >>

Why are we protesting SOPA/PIPA?

SOPA and Protect-IP create an architecture for internet censorship” … “thousands of commercial ISPs, colleges, small businesses, nonprofits, and other entities that maintain domain servers are going to have to reconfigure their networks, potentially at substantial cost, in order to easily comply with the new law” … “if enacted, either of these bills will create an environment of tremendous fear and uncertainty for technological innovation, and seriously harm the credibility of the United States in its role as a steward of key Internet infrastructure.”

OpenCUNY Migration/Upgrade Complete

September 7, 2011 in Maintenance, Service Notice

Maggie and I are happy to report that we have successfully migrated OpenCUNY to our new server. Following the migration this past Friday, we were finally able to upgrade WordPress to its latest version and update all plugins and themes to their newest versions. A few older themes and plugins had no updates available and, as a result, may no longer work with the newest version of WordPress. Please contact Maggie or I if you find a theme/plugin no longer working. In almost every case we should be able to recommend a newer alternative:
http://opencuny.org/help

We’ll be in touch shortly with information on our other 2011-12 OpenCUNY Initiatives. In the meantime, you should already be experiencing faster load time, more plugins and themes to choose from, and increased upload limits.

Uploading Issues

March 2, 2010 in Service Notice

A number of you have contacted me about problems you’ve been experiencing while uploading attachments. The problem has now been identified, and we’re working with our hosting provider to address it. I’ll let everyone know once this issue has been resolved.

Please let me know if this temporary inability to upload attachments causes you or your group any significant problems: http://opencuny.org/help

Everything else should be functioning properly, just not the ability to upload attachment files.
