About the Africa Research Group (ARG)

Chartered by the Doctoral Student Council in 1997, the Africa Research Group (ARG) is an interdisciplinary association of graduate students engaged in the study of Africa at The CUNY Graduate Center.

The purpose of the ARG is to support and coordinate scholarship, conference presentations, and journal publication on Africa among graduate students; build a network of Africanists at the Graduate Center and within the consortium of universities in the tri-state area; and promote ties with CUNY faculty and with the greater Africanist community by keeping informed on on-going activities on African issues.

Our activities include hosting lectures, seminars, informal discussions, film screenings, and art exhibits by faculty, students, and members of the broader Africanist communities.

We also maintain an email distribution list for Africa-related events, called Africa Networks NY. Africa Networks NY seeks to serve the needs and interests of the academic, NGO, diplomatic, arts, and business communities of the NY metropolitan area with interests in the history, arts and culture, sciences, politics, and economics of Africa.
