I agree with Alison. I don't want anyone to get fatigue here. Plus we might have more furloughs in the pipe and want to save our energy for that. The balance of momentum is always tough. Others?

It seems to me that the soup protest is having a little trouble getting off the ground, which I would imagine is due in part to the fact that our great volunteers and activists are worn out from yesterday's protest, and keeping abreast of all the new developments!

I'd like to propose tabling the soup protest for now, and / or considering pushing it to May 26th, the day when the furlough issue goes to the courts. This gives us more time to organize, get through finals, publicize, and dust ourselves off for a really kick - ass protest.

Thoughts?

Do people want to go ahead with the soupline as a way of protesting adjunct layoffs (even though the furloughs are blocked by injunction)? There was a lot of energy at yesterday protest, and people liked the idea of the soup-protest.

Hi all-
The PSC won a furlough for this Friday. We still need to consider actions for the possibility of more furloughs down the line.

Also, Renee pointed out that HEO lines are the most likely affected. She said they won't be on campus on Friday (at the GC). Can anyone confirm that (I've heard conflicting things)? Thoughts on whether that should affect our plans for a Friday protest?

Hi everyone,

According to the CUNY website, "the furlough will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010 for all covered titles. Those employees will not work (and will not be paid) on that date."

Should we have the soup-line protest on Friday, May 21, day of the furlough? What time? Should it be outside of the GC?

I think we need to nail down details ASAP because it's the end of the semester, and so people are less inclined to come out for a protest. A quick list of things we need:

people to volunteer to make or bring soup / bread
to coordinate media efforts (I will get in touch with the PSC for their help); relatedly, a draft of the press release; turn-out, and I think more than flyers to publicize the event. Ideas?; people to table next week to raise awareness. Antonia, would you be willing to organize tabling (again? I can do a lot of tabling next week); an information sheet to hand out.

To do a good job on this we need to decide the date and time as soon as possible. Can folks weigh in?

Cheers,

Alison
